Mission and Vision Statement

Today seeing a bird or squirrel dead in the middle of the road destroys my inner soul.  Something as little as a bird lying dead in the road often brings back the tears and pain.  I might cry for a few minutes and I might cry for a week.  The Rest Of The Story!!!

Help-A-Vet is a non-profit organization designed to help the estimated 5,826,379 military families that have been affected by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

This is a REAL problem that affects millions of lives.  As America prepares for another war with Iraq, there will be thousands more coming home, suffering in silence.

All we have to do is look to Fort Bragg, NC where five killings took place this summer to see that PTSD is still a clear and present danger to those affected by its effects on the mind.  Three of the five soldiers had just returned from service in Afghanistan.  We will never be able to prove that they were all suffering from PTSD but the likelihood is very great.

With your help we can help stop the next suicide or the next murder.  Many veterans suffer in silence with PTSD.  They are afraid to get help if still on active duty because of the negative repercussions that they face, the loss of a job, career, family.  Many others suffer in silence because they do not know they have a treatable illness.

With your help, Help-A-Vet  will educate them about PTSD.  We will see that they know where and how to get help from the government or private organizations.

PTSD is a real problem that many veterans face when returning from war and/or peace-keeping missions in war torn countries such as Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan.

America's War Totals:

42,348,460 - Served in the military during war.

894,468 - Deaths

1,431,290 - Wounded

19,421,266 - Living War Veterans, each with a story about what they experienced, many still suffering from PTSD.

According to the National Center For Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, "About 30 percent of the men and women who have spent time in war zones experience PTSD."

Based on this fact, one could predict that 5,826,379 war veterans have suffered or are still suffering from PTSD.  Of course this number is much greater when you account for all the family members that are also affected by PTSD.

Mission Statement

The mission of Help-A-Vet is to improve the lives of veterans and their families that are effected by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Vision Statement

1.  To build a coalition of volunteers in all 50 states who will help locate, educate and provide support to veterans who are suffering alone with the pain and despair of PTSD.

2.  To educate veterans and the public about PTSD and provide guidance on where to find help in their state.

3.  To lobby the Department of Defense to make it against Military Regulations to punish any Soldier, Sailor, Airmen or Marine who seeks mental or physical help for PTSD.  Currently, our military forces know that if they seek help for PTSD,  that it could very well be a career ending choice for the veteran.

4.  To set up PTSD support groups at every military post or installation.  These support groups will be able to reach out on a very personal level.  These support groups will be able to save many lives.

Your Help Is Needed NOW!!!

We can not do it alone.  Help us - help veterans and their families that have sacrificed so much for our country.  Their sacrifices, allow you and I, to be FREE, to work and live in the greatest country on earth.
